My Letter,
Earlier this month, as I was driving to the university early in the morning, listening to the early morning shows, which are the best road-boredom-kill, and actually entertaining. One that got the tsk tsk out was Lee McGrath on the big breakfast show, were he pointed a homophobic remark. Lee made a small talk in between songs and he announced GQ magazine’s latest polls on men using products, including men using women’s products, and some were make-up. “I wouldn’t want to be friends with a guy who wears mascara! That’s just weird” quoting! Now we did talk about how media plays bad part on homophobia as we did publish an article months earlier on the influence of the media toward homophobic acts, and pushing it to the limit. The Jordanian and the Middle Eastern media in general, are aware of that now, as many publications have run articles and features about LGBT issues, many were undermining and understudied, many were homophobic and personal, and many were informative and positive. Media should remain neutral, you never get personal in media, or it’ll be just another sign of unprofessionalism. And what Lee remarked was intolerable as the remark it self wasn’t. That’s just one…
"Bask in the fluidity of a sheering Summer... This is the year of vintage, originality and local creations. What more do you want than a warm cup of tea, Sade, rooftop with antic furniture and a blushing sunset?!"
As we’re shifting through the months of summer, we either realize we’re storing and storming out temper or we’re releasing it with sips of iced-teas and Pena-coladas. But when it comes to the gay community of our fields, things are street-stumpy! During gay years, I don’t think there has been a year in which gay-attitude was not in doubt! Was it? Is it? How did it carry on? Is it the gay-culture itself? Is it the influence of TV, or is it something gays harbor for? This month we discuss the issue of gay-attitude dilemmas, MJ writes madness.
Never done or seen before! My.Kali.mag publishes its first gay-comic of 33 pages of creational works by local geek and comic-lover, Thomas Wolfing. Thomas teams up with My.Kali and joins the family. Delivering episodes of his work on a monthly basis will be the start of an entertaining journey. Make sure to check his first ‘Bad Boys’.
Finally, our cover theme of this month’s issue, the vintage issue. Inspired by a personal fashion diaries. We met with American/French photographer Yannick LeJacq for tea on the rooftop of the rainbow house (see pictures downward) in Jabal Amman to project the diaries into one real-dusty shoot, 'The Grey Era'. Jordania comes to town this season with this feature, capturing the early moments of a blushing sunset, dusky hues, and a romantic Amman. So bask in the fluidity of a sheering Summer... This is the year of vintage, originality and local creations. What more do you want than a warm cup of tea, Sade, rooftop with antic furniture and a blushing sunset?!"
Amman as never seen before!
XOXO
Kali
