My Letter,
So look what June dragged in, Summer! Summer jobs, mini breaks, sun-kissed skin, and roof-top parties is what this sexy summer is all about, but what about those book curlers? Why not try something out-going this season? A road trip with your friends to Aqaba and camping on the beach, I heard it’s one hell of an adventure! This issue we have the feature of My.Kali’s mission, which we went on the street snapped shot some of our local stores here in Amman that has the gayest names ever, check them out, you’ll laugh out loud. Also featuring MJ’s latest piece on crushes within the class-lecture room, when it includes your teacher, it’s quite a talk. Also Valentine’s strong come back with his duo pieces on bullying and sexual harassment and what should the gays learn about and open there eyes upon these days.
"I know that if odor were visible, as color is, I'd see the summer garden in rainbow clouds." - Robert Bridges
Gracing our cover this month beautiful boy, Shamil (right>), embodies the sexy nerd, which perfects the theme of our “Gay-Educational Issue” which our assistant/make-up artist Noor helped achieve. Graduated last month, Noor went back to Palestine-Jerusalem to his family, knowing he’ll always be part of the My.Kali family, helping us achieving our sexy covers since mid 2008.
Universities start later this year, when a lot of freshly graduates start to choose their picks for be-homing the campuses. Many as well chose to transfer to other uni’s across the country, looking for better education, fresh starts, and open minded atmospheres. This issue we feature a big piece on the most open minded universities in Jordan that you could consider making it your second home. Looking for the most gay-friendly and open minded atmospheres for you to be yourself and feel like you’re wearing one skin.
We’re also featuring late features on Walid Al Zou’bi and artist Tom Bogaert, (last month’s cover material), and sexophobia! Make sure to check our recent movie list and current news (home page-downward) on what’s happening gay-ly and lately!
Earlier this year, My.Kali had met up with Living Well magazine writer Susana Mendoza to help her out with her feature on lesbianism in the Middle East and the lesbian community in Jordan in specific (the article is published this month in the June issue of Living Well magazine). The local media had attacked the idea of sexuality and homosexuality in the last few years, little had went out to be positive, but giving a good out-look on what the truth really is a constant work letting our society learn of what sexuality is and gradually accept the idea of what “we” as people can’t really control, and being lived under harsh circumstances for the sake of others’ ignorance toward the issue. So sex-seekers isn’t the right image of what homosexuality really is!

June's Cover, crazy adventurous story:
Struggling for weeks on our cover theme, coming across a pink locker door in the university made me walk right back. It was the perfect “gay”/educational related available background (check pics downward), so we actually unhooked the door, rolled it in big plan papers and left. On our way out, people were staring at us, 2 people walking with some big rolled in paper, with pink edges peeking out, suspicious we were, a typical Cameron Diaz moment! And the most important part that the security camera has us taking that pink door out, and in again! We took the door to the studio and shot the cover the very next day. Resulting our June 2010 cover, and returning the door right at the beginning of the week. It was such a crazy bold move we did to achieve the cover look! Ala’a, our cover designer decided to manipulate with the background’s color, knowing we had already used the color pink in the March cover. Blue was the very top choice. Ala'a keeps our covers consciously clever! So write us and let us know what you think of our current issue and cover, we’d love to hear from you.
I hope you’ll enjoy the June issue… coming to you from a happy place, wishing you all the same and the best.
XOXO
Kali
