For The Sake Of Elections!
Watching as the United States prepares for a possibly history making election in November of this year, I am finding myself reflecting on the election from my standpoint as a feminist, rather then as a lesbian. While I expected to see my peers rallying around Hilary Clinton, celebrating the possibility of the first female president of the United States of America, I am instead shocked to find that young women, both straight and gay, are choosing to support Obama. I want to see a woman in the White House because I want to believe that America is ready for this. I want to believe my friends when they say that if America does not vote for Hilary, it is not because she is a woman, but because she is not the most qualified person for the job. I find myself sinking into the corner when the Hilary campaign comes up for discussion at the dinner table. Supporting Hilary has become utterly un-cool, and I fear that this trend will be carried to the polls, and we will have to kiss goodbye the opportunity to witness the inauguration of America’s first female president.
